Role of
REPRESENTATIVE
to the
ATLANTIC ECUMENICAL COUNCIL
The Constitution of the Atlantic Ecumenical Council provides direct participation of each member body through one or more Representatives. The extent tp which the Representative “speaks for” the member body is determined by EACH MEMBER BODY. The role of the Representative is understood to include but not limited to
(a) Regarding the Appointing Body The Representative will
1. Be knowledgeable of the life and work of the appointing church or council. Normally the Representative will be an active member of that body.
2. Convey information of the activities and concerns and programs of their church/council to AEC by regular report , correspondence, etc
3. Facilitate the preparation and forwarding of an ANNUAL REPORT to AEC, which will include, but not be limited to * If a Council list of its member Bodies.
* If a Denomination list of its Officers ( Head, Secretary, Treasurer Ecumenical Officer.
* List of activities and programs ( sponsored or supported) in the previous year of an ecumenical dimension.
* Financial Statement
* Resolutions or requests referred to AEC.
* Assessment of the ecumenical experience in the area served by the Appointing Body.
4. When the Representatives’ Church or Council is the Host of an Annual Meeting of AEC , be a resource to the Local Arrangements Committee.
(b). Regarding the Atlantic Ecumenical Council The Representative will
1. Embody the ecumenical spirit in the life and work of the church/ council they represent.
2. Attend meetings of the Atlantic Ecumenical Council.
3 Prepare a report or see one is prepared following the annual meeting (and other meetings of AEC) to the appointing body, which will include, among other things * List of current member Bodies
* Note major issues on the agenda of the meeting.
* Convey any resolutions before the Council and Council action on them.
* Forward any matters the Council sought specific advice or response from its Member Bodies.
* Act as liaison between the Council and the Appointing Body when the representatives Appointing Body is the Host of an annual meeting of AEC. (Annual meetings have rotated about Atlantic Canada and been ‘hosted’ by a member Body.
4. Serve, from time to time, on the Executive of AEC or as an officer of AEC on occasion. (Such persons a re normally chosen from among the members of AEC.)
(c). Term of Office: The length of the term is set by the Appointing member body. Note: It is helpful if representatives are able to serve more than one year to offer continuity to the Council.
